What I’m Actually Doing Right Now to Build This

There’s a version of this journey that looks exciting from the outside.

Big ideas.A clear mission.A vision that feels meaningful.

But what it actually looks like right now is much quieter than that.

It’s emails.

It’s research.

It’s conversations that don’t always go anywhere—but sometimes lead to something unexpected.

Right now, building this means:

  • Applying for grants and learning how funding actually works

  • Planning small events to raise both money and awareness

  • Talking to property owners and investors about what pet-friendly housing could look like in practice

  • Looking at potential properties differently—not just as investments, but as opportunities

It’s not glamorous.

Most of it happens behind the scenes, without anyone really seeing it.

And some days, it feels slow.

Especially when I think about the bigger goal—the foster care facility, the ability to step in and help immediately, the idea of having real systems in place.

We’re not there yet.

But we’re not at zero either.

And that matters.

What I’m learning is that progress doesn’t always feel like progress when you’re in it.

Sometimes it feels like:

  • Sending one more email

  • Asking one more question

  • Having one more conversation

Even when you’re not sure where it will lead.

But that’s how this gets built.

Not all at once. Not perfectly. But piece by piece.

If you’re someone who’s built something before, you probably understand this part.

And if you haven’t—but you’re thinking about it—this is what it really looks like at the beginning.

It’s not about having everything figured out.

It’s about deciding it matters enough to keep going anyway.

And that’s where I am right now.

Still building. Still learning. Still moving forward.
